The road south through Sipora

Remote.
That's the point.

A flight, an evening in Padang, and a morning on the water. From the moment you land, we take care of the rest.

Everything starts
in Padang.

Every route to the Mentawai runs through Minangkabau International (PDG), on the coast of West Sumatra. Jakarta feeds it all day, Kuala Lumpur three times daily, Medan once.

The boats sail in the morning, so give yourself an evening in Padang first, with good food, an easy night, and a short drive to the harbour at sunrise.

Tell us your flight and we take it from there: the airport pickup, and the car to the port in the morning.

Mentawai
Fast

Recommended
Fly into Padang, the day before
Jakarta runs roughly twenty flights a day into Padang on Batik, Citilink, Garuda, Lion, Pelita and Super Air Jet, about an hour and three quarters. AirAsia flies from Kuala Lumpur three times daily, around seventy minutes. Super Air Jet is the only non-stop from Medan, once a day.
Kuala Lumpur is an hour ahead, so you land in Padang barely twenty minutes after the clock time you left.
Sleep in Padang
The boat sails at seven, so the night before is yours in Padang. Good rooms at every price, and the old town by the harbour is a pleasant place to lose an evening.
Tell us your flight and we will arrange the car to the harbour in the morning.
Sail from Muaro, in the old town
Mentawai Fast leaves from Pelabuhan Muaro on Jalan Batang Arau. Padang has a few harbours, so just say "Pelabuhan Muaro, Jalan Batang Arau" to any driver and you are set. Ours already knows the way.
Be at the harbour by half past five for a seven o'clock sailing. Tickets are bought at the counter, and the day before is calmer than the morning of.
Three and a half hours to Tuapejat
The crossing runs to Tuapejat, at the north of Sipora, our island. On the published schedule that is Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with the return leaving Tuapejat in the afternoon on the same three days.
Boards travel in the hold as extra baggage, charged by weight and paid in cash at the counter, separately from your ticket.
Padang → Tuapejat As published, April 2026
Wednesday 07:00 → 10:30 Returns 15:00
Friday 07:00 → 10:30 Returns 15:00
Sunday 10:00 → 13:30 Returns 15:00

Island timetables follow the sea. Sailings shift now and then, so an itinerary with a little slack in it always travels best out here.

We check the schedule the day before you travel and confirm your sailing, the fare and the board charge for you. One message from us; nothing for you to chase.

Schedule as published by Mentawai Fast, April 2026. Tickets run roughly Rp 280,000–400,000 one way depending on class; board bags are paid in cash at the counter. We confirm the current numbers for your dates.

The crossing is operated and sold by Mentawai Fast, an independent company. Kali Villas is not responsible in any way for guests’ transportation to the island, and we are happy to assist with whatever we can — information, contacts and timing.

Fly
to Sipora

Fastest
Padang to Bandara Mentawai
Susi Air flies a twelve-seat Cessna Grand Caravan from Padang to Bandara Mentawai, the airport at Matobe that most people still call Rokot. It lands on Sipora, the same island as the villas, and the flight takes about forty minutes.
Roughly twice a week, with flying days that vary through the year, so tell us your dates and we will check availability for you.
Ten kilos, all in
A small aircraft travels light: the allowance is 10 kg in total, with a 5 kg cabin piece, and excess is charged per kilo at the counter.
Perfect for a soft bag and a camera. Boards and big duffels are happier on the boat.
Let the boards take the boat
The easy pattern: you in the air, the quiver on the Mentawai Fast with the rest of your group, and we collect everyone and everything on arrival.
If boards are the deciding factor, talk to us before booking flights and we will set up the combination that works.
An hour and a quarter south
Bandara Mentawai sits in the south of Sipora, so the drive to Katiet is a short one, about an hour and a quarter. We meet the flight.

This route rewards travellers arriving light, like a surf photographer, someone joining a group already at the villas, or anyone whose dates land between sailings. It is the quickest way onto the island by a wide margin.

Seats are few and flying days vary through the year, so send us your dates and we will check live availability for you.

The flight is operated and sold by Susi Air, an independent airline. Kali Villas is not responsible in any way for guests’ transportation to the island, and we are happy to assist with whatever we can — information, contacts and timing.

The overnight
ferry

Budget
From Bungus, south of the city
The ASDP car ferries Ambu-Ambu and Gambolo run from Pelabuhan Bungus, about 45 minutes south of Padang. A different company, a different harbour and a different ticket from the fast boat.
Tickets through Ferizy, ASDP's own app, or at the port counter.
Twelve hours, and you sleep aboard
Around twelve hours to Tuapejat, usually overnight, in an economy deck or an air-conditioned business cabin. It costs a fraction of the fast boat and saves you a night's room in Padang.
Instead of a fixed weekly timetable, ASDP issues a rolling monthly roster that moves with dry-docking and weather, and the two ships alternate around a longer island circuit. Ask us for the current month.
Wake up at the islands
Economy is a mat on deck among locals and their cargo; business buys air-conditioning and a proper seat. Either way, you come up on deck to Sipora arriving with the sunrise.

Right for travellers with loose dates who would rather spend the difference on days in the water. With fixed dates or a full quiver, the fast boat is the better fit.

Fares run around Rp 100,000–140,000 depending on class (the last published tariff, though today's may be a little higher). Ask us and we will check the current month's roster and prices for you.

The ferry is operated by ASDP Indonesia Ferry, a state company, with tickets sold through its Ferizy platform. Kali Villas is not responsible in any way for guests’ transportation to the island, and we are happy to assist with whatever we can — information, contacts and timing.

On the
horizon

From 2027
Kuala Lumpur direct, with Fly SamaSama
From March 2027, Fly SamaSama plans scheduled charters from Kuala Lumpur straight to the Mentawai, about three hours all in, flying Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with a fast-track immigration stop of roughly 45 minutes in Padang.
The announced allowance is a generous 35 kg, covering up to three boards and a bag, with returns at about US$1,000 per person. The waitlist is already open, and we will update this page as the launch firms up.

The route is planned, operated and sold by Fly SamaSama, an independent company. Kali Villas is not responsible in any way for guests’ transportation to the island, and we are happy to assist with whatever we can — information, contacts and timing.

As announced by Fly SamaSama, observed August 2026. Details may move before launch.

This part is easy. Send your arrival point, date and boat or flight number, and we will put you in touch with the trusted local drivers and boat captains we use ourselves, timed to meet you when you land.

What nobody tells you.

01
Three harbours, one right answer
The fast boat leaves from Muaro, right in the old town, and "Pelabuhan Muaro, Jalan Batang Arau" gets you there in any taxi. The overnight ferry sails from Bungus, further down the coast. Two names worth keeping in your pocket.
02
Give the trip room to breathe
A loose day at either end turns the travel days into part of the holiday, with an evening in Padang on the way in and an unhurried return on the way out. The sea sets the rhythm here, and it rewards the relaxed itinerary.
03
Bring cash for the boards
Board bags are weighed and paid for in rupiah at the harbour counter, separately from your ticket. We will tell you the going rate before you fly, so you land with the right notes in your pocket.
04
Boards love the boat
The little plane to Sipora is for travelling light, while a quiver rides the crossing instead. Plan the gear onto the water, and the people however they like to travel.

Tell us when you land.

Send your dates and we will work the route backwards from them, from the sailing to the night in Padang to the car at the harbour.
